SHHS, in collaboration with PMA, has been contracted to represent the Downtown Women's Center Campus Expansion. The project includes 98 units—97 designated as permanent supportive housing and one as a manager's unit—within a seven-story Type III podium construction featuring one level of subterranean parking. This expansion will increase the number of DWC-operated units in Downtown Los Angeles from 119 to 216, further enhancing their ability to leverage existing housing, wellness, and employment programs to provide comprehensive wraparound supportive services for women experiencing homelessness.
Skid Row in Los Angeles, Al-Zawya Al-Hamra in Cairo, and Kibera in Nairobi faced similar challenges like inadequate housing and limited basic services. Ohoud Wafi discussed enhancing living conditions in Cairo. Experts convened to discuss shared challenges and solutions in housing at the UN Habitat World Urban Forum 12 in Cairo, Egypt.
Approximately 100 housing industry professionals convened to tour and discuss the 227-unit micro-housing project with Kayte Edson from STS Construction, Brad Padden from Housing Diversity Corporation, Thomas Wong from Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, and Andre Bueno from Better Angels LA. The event featured a comprehensive analysis of development, financing, master leasing strategies, and existing affordable housing systems, along with discussions on innovative, non-subsidized housing solutions.

After nine years at Steinberg Hart as managing partner of the Los Angeles HQ office and firmwide Mixed-Use Practice Leader overseeing all development projects, Simon has decided to pursue his passion for solving the housing crisis. He joined Steinberg Hart as a partner in March 2015, helping establish the firm as a leading authority in multi-family and hospitality design in Los Angeles, and was the second largest shareholder at the time of his departure.
The Housing Steering Committee serves as a conduit for architects to influence through research and design solutions, initiating new public policy, and supporting member engagement in ways that advance solutions to California’s housing challenges.
